This Dutch restaurant does very nice pancakes – savory and sweet.  I always thought someone should write a cookbook centered around pancakes and here is a restaurant that has all kinds.  Very child friendly.  Nice for Sunday brunch dates.  Big line up so don’t be too hungry.

This Uzbekistan restaurant does lovely, flavourful dishes for exceptionally good value.  Can’t miss the location on 17th Ave SE.

Meat and Whiskey

If you are hankering for steak, smoked meat and whiskey, try out the Hayden Block Smoke and Whiskey restaurant.  It doesn’t do wine very well, but if you love whiskey and protein – go!

Big Taste Calgary

Big Taste Calgary is an opportunity for you to try a restaurant downtown that you may have never tried before.  The menus are fixed price which means that you get a set menu for lunch $25 and dinner $35.  Dinner is 3 courses with a starter, entree and dessert.  Great value.  This week we tried Ruth’s Chris Steak House, a place that I always wanted to try. They even do their own date night special.  The steak was beautiful and seared in butter.  The view was lovely and overlooking 9th avenue.  All tables are terraced so everyone gets a great view.  We also tried Murrietta’s and the wine costs were very reasonable.  Buchanon’s was amazing – great buttermilk biscuits and impeccable service as well as awesome steak.  These are restaurants we don’t normally try but will go again to try other items on the menu. The company of good friends was the best part of each evening!
